Evan's present upon returning from Calgary for me was 4 four-leaf clovers that he picked from the grass, preserved in a vitamin bottle in water.  He's really proud of these clovers, having found so many lucky ones, and follows me around putting them wherever I happen be seated, a glass of 4-leaf clovers soaking in water.

our boys have been trading, fighting over, sharing and just generally consuming mints lately. there are two types of mint-box, according to E's formulation: there is the regular mint-box, which contains regular mints (tic tacs etc.), and there is the smell-mint box, which is an empty mint-box which must be retained solely for the purpose of smelling that fresh-mint smell. it can occasionally have one or maybe two mints re-placed into it in order to revive the smell. evan will share his regular mints with only a little resistance (and sometimes none), but the smell-mint box is off-limits for his brother.

[putting E to bed before day 2 of grade 1.  He came home exhausted from day 1, but now, at 8:45, he's leaping around in bed and can't stop moving.  I tell him he needs to settle his body so he can get to sleep]. 

E:  I try daddy, but I just have that kindergarten feeling.  Do you know that feeling you get, it's like the feeling you get when you're just starting kindergarten.  Do you know that one?

Me:  No, tell me more about it.  It's been a long time since I went to kindergarten.

E:  It's the *feeling*, don't you know it? [exasperated:  how can you not know this?]  The kindergarten one.  It's when you have all this energy like all in the tap inside you, but the tap is turned off, and you can't let it out, because you're sitting all the time.  And now the energy is stuck inside me, and I can't get the tap to open, so it leaks.

Today we had Evan's soccer at 930. He scored his first goal in months and played great. At 130 Evan had baseball and at 3 pm Ben had baseball. Now we're home for dinner on the BBQ. Ben can ride 30 feet on his 2 wheel bike just since yesterday.
